Beauty Tips for The Bride

You are gearing up for your wedding events, such as the engagement party, a bachelorette party, etc.  It is time to look your best, as the center of attention to these events, so why not use the latest beauty trends to help you glow.

Do you want a dramatic look or simple elegance?  Either look needs some of the same basic items.  Find a foundation that matches your skin tone.  Apply a small amount to your jawline to make sure the color of foundation matches your face and your neck.  Primer is also necessary to use before you apply your foundation and your eye makeup.  It will make your makeup last longer and keep your look lasting throughout your wedding event.  Use any primer, CC cream or BB cream, whichever best fits your skin.

If you want a wedding glow get a spray tan before your wedding.  If it is your first time spray tanning, give it a try about three weeks before your event so that your color can be matched perfectly and to make sure the spray tan is exactly as you would like it.  One you decide to use a spray tan for your event then schedule your final spray tan three days before your event.  If you don’t plan on getting a full body tan you can use some bronzer to get a glow on your face.  Don’t use too much, a small amount of bronzer goes a long way.

Let’s face it, one of your worst nightmares is to have pimples the day of any big event especially events that involve numerous pictures being taken.  If you happen to have any pimples on your face a quick fix to dry it out is to apply toothpaste directly on the pimple.

If you are going for a natural look, there is not much to do.  Apply your primer to your face and eyes then apply your eyeshadows.  It is best to do your eyeshadows first because it falls on your face and it is easier to clean up.  Use eyeshadows and eye liners that are neutral to keep the natural look.  Then comes my favorite part; apply waterproof mascara to your eyelashes, both top and bottom, it really brings out your eyes.  Then add foundation to your face and add concealer under both eyes.  Bring in your bronzer and add it to your forehead, nose, chin, neck and a little under your cheekbone to bring structure to your cheeks.  Pick a blush that isn’t too pink and apply it to your cheeks.  You are basically done with all of your makeup, but don’t forget those lips.  No face is complete without lipstick or lipgloss.  A natural lip color continues to embrace the natural look you are going for, but it can be fun to add a bit of pop to a natural look and the lips are where it should be done.  A red or a brighter pink can actually brighten up your look while still keeping it natural.

If you are looking to have a more dramatic look, use eyeshadows that are bold and contour the face.  Below are a couple of ways to apply your eyeshadow and to contour the face.  Remember to do your eyeshadow first and then do your contouring after you apply your foundation.

These are some simple, but effective beauty tips to keep in mind when any of your wedding events come up.  You are the main attraction and as so you should look your best for your showers, parties, and of course, your wedding day.  You might think that you can’t recreate these looks, but if you practice them they kinks will work themselves out.  If you are looking to buy new beauty products always consult with a specialist at the counter.  They can help you pick the colors that fit you best and they can even show you tricks to create the look you are gong for.

Your Dress after the Wedding

Your wedding day is over, but you still have your wedding gown.  What do you do with the dress?  Here are a few things you can do with your gown after your big day.  The traditional idea is that your daughter will someday wear your dress on her wedding day.  It is not common to see brides wear their mothers wedding dress anymore, but if you would like to keep your gown, just in case, here are a cope of ways to store it.  First you need to have your wedding gown cleaned and preserve it.  Yes, there is a difference in cleaning it and having it preserved.  You can keep it in a box and store it or you could do something a bit more glamorous with it and use it as decoration in your home.  If you loved your dress, display it.

If you are going on a honeymoon why not take your dress with you and plan a trash the dress photo shoot.  For those of you that do not know what trash the dress is, it is a photo session of you and your husband, in a body of water, dressed in your wedding day attire.  You will have beautiful pictures and fun memories to cherish of you and your husband as newlyweds.  You might be thinking “why would I ever ruin my dress by doing trash the dress”.  Trash the dress does not mean you have to ruin your dress in any way, unless you want to.  I have asked several brides that have had a trash the dress photo shoot and all of them said their dress was just as it was before the pictures.  If you plan on taking pictures in the ocean, you might want to jump in a pool after.  It will clean all the sand off your dress and it will be as beautiful as the day you were married.  Still not convinced about a trash the dress session?  Look at these gorgeous pictures.

Celebrity Bridesmaid Dresses

imagesIf you have no use for your dress after your wedding, you might want to consider selling your dress.  There are a few consignment and resale shops in the Austin area where you can take your dress to.  This is a great way to get back some money to use towards your new home with your husband or to buy something you can use on a regular basis.  If you are feeling a bit more generous consider donating your dress to a cause or a friend in need.  Brides Across America, Brides Against Breast Cancer, and Wish Upon A Wedding are a few of the organizations that help brides in need fulfill their wedding dreams.  Not everyone can afford to have the dress of their dreams, but these organizations are trying to make brides dreams a reality.

 

Don’t leave your dress in the back of a closet to be forgotten.  Bring your dress back to life even after your wedding day.  Find which best fits you and use your dress for something great; whether it be to bring some glamour into your house, trash the dress, or donating it to a charity you are passionate about.

My Life as a Bride Finale

Our Ceremony

It finally happened, I am a married woman.  The wedding was absolutely perfect.  We didn’t have any problems and my husband (yes, it is strange to call him husband instead of fiancé) and I enjoyed our wonderful wedding.  Today, I will reveal the rest of my wedding details.

The wedding venue I picked in the Hill Country was Rancho Mirando.  The reason I chose this venue is that it offered everything that I was looking for.  Rancho Mirando is owned and operated by two wonderful ladies that go out of their way to make sure every step of your wedding is  perfected.  Leslie and Donna are kind an pleasant to work with.  Every meeting with them was easy and they always stayed up to date on any changes or ideas they thought would help me during my wedding planning process.  Let’s be honest, even if you have the most amazing venue imaginable, if you don’t get along with the people in charge, if they are difficult to deal with, or if there are an excessive amount of rules and limitations then there is a good chance you won’t be enjoying your wedding planning as much as you had hoped for.  I had none of those issues because going into it I made sure I picked a venue that made me feel comfortable.  Rancho Mirando was the most beautiful venue that I had visited in the Hill Country.  The drive out to Rancho Mirando is breathtaking and once you arrive on site the view is just as beautiful.  I wanted my guest to be able to see what I experience on a daily basis living in the hill country, the beautiful greenery and hills.  The view from the venue is green as far as the eye can see.  At other venues I had visited the views weren’t as pretty or there were houses that would take away from the view.  Rancho Mirando has three levels to it.  I liked this because my guests could see parts of my wedding without seeing the whole thing altogether and I could play up each area to be different.  I loved every bit of the venue, especially the main house that we stayed in.  Rancho Mirando met my expectations on every level and went above and beyond for Adam and myself.

My wedding planner was Kayleigh Ziegenbein.  Kayleigh is great at what she does and there was no doubt in my mind that she would get things done for my wedding.  She dealt with all of the things a bride doesn’t care to do or worry about and also helped me with all of the fun planning.  I tried to do as much of the planning on my own, but she always stepped up whenever I needed her.  She coined the theme that my choices were heading in to be Marie Antoinette and it was exactly as I envisioned it.  The day of my wedding I was overwhelmed, mostly because I was about to get married, but not once was I concerned that things weren’t getting done while I was getting ready.  I always thought I would have wanted to go around the venue before guest arrive to make sure everything was as I imagined it, but when it came own to the day of I wasn’t worried and walking around the venue was not even on my mind.  Picking someone that you trust to make your vision come to life is very important to have on your wedding day.  She made everything run smoothly on the day of and even though I wanted her to have fun with me at the wedding she still did her job and continued to make sure we were sticking to a timeline and getting things done.

The wedding vendors that I chose were also part of why I wasn’t worried about what was happening outside the main house on my wedding day.  All of the vendors I picked have great reviews and were suggested to me by Kayleigh.

Wes Shephard with New Road Productions is absolutely fantastic.  He is great to work with and his photography skills are awesome.  As soon as Kayleigh suggested Wes I looked him up and I knew I wanted him to be our photographer (I booked him as quickly as possible).  Venue and photography were the two most important parts of the wedding to me.  He is fun to work with and made us feel comfortable.  We used him for our engagement session, our wedding, and I will be using him for my bridal session.  We also used New Road Productions to do our wedding video.  On our wedding day there was a lot going on, but Wes and his guys didn’t make me feel overwhelmed like I needed to be taking certain pictures or doing this or that for pictures.  Instead they worked around us and made me feel like the pictures that were being taken were great.  They were all very nice and I am so happy that Wes and his crew captured our day.

Catering is a big part of any wedding, but it wasn’t a big concern for me until I had my first tasting with Suzanne Court.  She is nice and professional and her food is amazing.  Once Adam and I had our first tasting we knew we didn’t need to look for another caterer and we could no longer lower our standards for food.  Suzanne has a very professional staff.  On the wedding day I had several compliments about the food, but I had the same amount of compliments about the staff and I did not realize that guests would pay attention to that.  It was a win, win for me.

Rentals are an absolute necessity at any wedding, unless you plan on purchasing everything you need for your wedding.  Rancho Mirando has its own rental company and we used them for most of our rentals.  We had to increase our numbers several times and they were able to accommodate us.  We also used Whim rentals and they were able to get us other last minute necessities that we needed.  Whim is always a pleasure to work with.  I have used rentals from them before and I have never had any problems.

I used Whim Floral for our wedding flowers.  Kari is absolutely fabulous.  I cannot say enough good things about Kari.  She is so sweet and cares about making your vision come to life.  The flowers for my wedding were exactly as I had pictured and I received several compliments on them.   You could tell she spent time on each arrangement.  She is also very creative and finds ways to incorporate flowers in area you wouldn’t even expect.  She also surprised me by making me a peony bouquet.  She wasn’t sure if she was going to be able to get the peony in and she did! She exceeded all my expectations on the flowers and I will continue to use her for any of my future events.

Simon Lee Bakery

Simon Lee Bakery created our wedding cake and grooms cake for the wedding.  We picked Simon Lee Bakery because the flavors they offered are delicious.  The wedding cake was classic yet simple, but our grooms cake was a 3D horned frog.  We both graduated from Texas Christian University and wanted to incorporate a bit of that in our wedding since that is where we met.

We had all kinds of music at our wedding. During the ceremony, Musical Discovery Chamber Players played lovely wedding music as guests arrived.  During cocktail hour we had mariachis playing for the guests as they mingled.  During the reception we hired Altared Weddings.  Christian was a great DJ and was very nice and friendly.  Altared Weddings also did our lighting and gobo.

There aren’t many things that I was very picky about during my wedding planning, but makeup was definitely one of them.  I went to about five different makeup artists for trials and was not happy with them.  I finally found Makenzi Laine and absolutely loved my makeup.  On the wedding day my girls liked the makeup they were seeing so much that they decided to get their makeup done as well.  My makeup was flawless and that is exactly what I was going for.  I will definitely be using her for future events.  My wedding hair was done by my usual stylist, Bobbie Kleman.  She is not only great at color, but also styling.  I wanted my hair to be down for the ceremony and up for the reception; she was able to create both looks for me.  She is one to go to for your wedding hair needs.

The wedding was a fairytale come true.  It is everything I had imagined it would be and I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.  Thank you to my parents, Adam, Kayleigh, our venue and the vendors that made this day flawless.  Adam and I loved our wedding and we are excited to see where this journey as husband and wife takes us.

My Life As A Bride

I have talked about the wedding process several times.  Now that I am only a short period away from my wedding date I would like to discuss some of the things I would have done differently or some mistakes I made along the way.

I think I did a pretty good job of planning and sticking to my timeline, but I am two weeks out and feeling stressed.  Don’t leave things to get done by other people!  If you want things done right, do them yourself.  I had personal stuff that I left to be handled by someone else and ultimately it fell back on me and we are now dealing with extra things during crunch time before the wedding. Don’t add extra stress for yourself in the end.  Plan as far ahead as possible so you are able to enjoy your last few weeks as fiancees.

When I sent out save-the-dates I thought I had a complete list of everyone that we needed to send them out to.  I was wrong.  Other people wanted to add to our list and those save-the-dates were sent out later than the rest.  Make sure to check with everyone that might have a say in who will be attending your wedding.  Check several times if needed. This wasn’t as much my fault, but it still looks bad on our part.

The invitations were a mess to begin with.  I was confident that the timeline I was given (by the company) would get me the invitations I wanted.  My fiancé and I waited an extra month to order the invitations because the company we were ordering through said that would be the best time to order them.  Turns out they never checked on a detail pertaining to our particular invitation and days after we had placed our order we received a call saying it would take extra time to be able to have those made.  Ultimately, we should have ordered invitations when we were originally planning to.  We had asked them to check dates and details several times during our appointments and they never mentioned it would take longer.  Also, always order extra envelopes.  If you are purchasing inner and outer envelopes, make sure to order enough extra of each just in case your calligrapher messes up or you do.  We purchased extras, but not enough and we ended up having to use a different outer envelope for some invitations.

DO NOT LEAVE THINGS UNTIL LAST MINUTE!  I cannot stress this enough.  I have left barely anything for last minute, but things come up that you do not expect.

We were expecting around 150 guests to attend our wedding and we are now at 205 guests.  People will forget to RSVP or leave it until the last possible minute.  one week prior to our deadline we had 100 guests RSVP.  It is two weeks after my deadline and I still have RSVPs coming in or texts and phone calls saying people will be coming.  You need to have a cut off date and stick to it.  Unfortunately we did not stick to our date and we have had to rearrange everything form chairs and tables to catering and rentals.  Make it easier on yourself and keep to your deadline.  It may be uncomfortable to turn people down, but there is a reason you mail out your invitation six weeks in advance.  They have had plenty of time to rsvp and should get it done by your deadline.

I hope any of this has helped the brides out there that are looking for what not to do.  It hasn’t been SUPER difficult to deal with, but these things could have been dealt with differently and relieved some stress.  Happy planning everyone!

Wedding Superstitions

There are so many wedding superstitions out there, but which are the most popular? Do you believe in superstitions? As a bride it can be fun and cute to follow some of these superstitions or incorporate them into your wedding.  I think it’s time we bring some of these superstitions into the light.

1.  The bride should have something new, borrowed, old, and blue.

2.  To bring good luck, save the ribbons from the shower gifts to create a bouquet that should be use during your rehearsal.

3.  If you tear any of the ribbons when you are opening gifts that is the number of kids you will have.

4.  If you see a rainbow on your wedding day it is a good omen.

5.  The first gift the bride opens should be the first used in her marital home.

6.  The groom should not see the bride until she walks down the aisle.

7.  As newlyweds, groom should carry the bride across the threshold.  If the bride were to stumble entering their home, it is a bad omen.

8.  There should be ten cans tied to the back of the newlyweds car to scare off bad spirits as they drive away.

9.  It is bad luck for the bride to practice walking down the aisle for her rehearsal.  Typically you ask a friend to do it for you.

10.  The bride’s veil is used to hide her from evil spirits.

11.  The girl that catches the bouquet is next to be married.

 

Remember, even if you don’t believe in these things, they can be fun for you and your groom to follow.  Some of these would even make cute wedding pictures.

Love is so, so Sweet

The wedding cake doesn’t seem to be at the top of the list when it comes to planning for a wedding, but it is still important.  The cake ties in to your theme, shows your guests what you and your grooms flavor is and it is the sweet treat of your wedding night.  It’s always exciting to see the bride and groom cut their cake and feed each other, mostly because you never know how crazy it will get.  Will it be sweet?  Will one smash the cake in the others face?  Will it end up all over them?  It is cute to see these little interactions with one another on their big day.

There are several vendors you can go to for your cake needs in the Hill Country.  Here are a few of my favorites.  Classic cakes by Lori is based out of Dripping Springs.  Everyone at Classic cakes by Lori is very sweet and helpful.  They can create any look you are going for and their cake flavors are definitely some of the best around.  From their moist vanilla cake to their peanut butter filling, it is all great!  Next, is Sweet Treats Bakery.  They were wonderful to work with and they offer several combinations of cake flavors, fillings, and frostings.  They are awesome at creating the look you are going for with your wedding cake.  They respond quickly and go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied.  Last, but certainly not least, is Simon Lee Bakery.  Have you ever imagined how delicious your wedding cake would be some day?  If so, these are the cakes for you.  They are so moist and delicious you will wonder how they can make something so exquisite.  Simon Lee and his crew are also great at designing any cake and shape you might want.  If you are looking at having something crazy made, he is the one to go to.

How do you pick the final style for your wedding cake?  I am one month away and I have yet to pick mine.  I would suggest using Pinterest and searching images on the internet or in magazines.  If I would have picked a cake even a month ago it would have been much different than what I am considering now.  Once you start to see everything come together and you watch your wedding theme evolve you will have a better idea of what you want exactly.

Who doesn’t enjoy trying cakes?  The cake tastings are something couples look forward to doing together.  Even if you disagree on a flavor, it’s hard to get angry or upset with a delicious piece of cake in your mouth.  I have been to several weddings that decide to leave out the grooms cake, but if you can’t reach an agreement on a wedding cake then having the grooms cake is a great way for both of you to get what you want.  Since we are on the topic of grooms cake, we might as well discuss it a bit.

The grooms cake is a great way to give the groom what he wants and to represent a bit of him through the cake.  Did he play football in college?  Does he have a favorite sports team?  He could have a cake created to show his interests or hobbies.  Also, it makes the groom feel like he has a say in something.  Let’s face it, the groom gets vetoed often during the wedding planning process, but his grooms cake is all him.  From the flavor to the design, he will love seeing this made specifically for him on the big day.  You can even surprise him with the grooms cake that represents what you think he likes.

Ultimately the cakes should represent you and your groom, but it should be a flavor that your guests will enjoy.  Enjoy cake tasting, it is so very sweet in every way.

How To: Keep Organized During Wedding Planning

We all know there are many things that go into planning a wedding.  I’ve discussed where to start, how to pick your favorites, and given countless other pieces of advice, but nothing can really prepare you for everything that you will need to keep up with.  Only you can make sure things get done how you want them and when you want them, so let’s talk about getting organized.  Some of you may be experts at organizing, but for those of you that are already feeling the pressure or would like to have everything as organized as possible this is the post for you.

Start by purchasing a planner, maybe even two.  Keep a pocket planner with you for appointments and a bigger planner at home in an area of your house that you will look at daily.  You could also purchase a large calendar to write due dates of payments on or your personal timeline of when you would like to book certain things for your wedding.

I know what you are thinking, why can’t I just put my appointments in my phone?  You can and you should.  Setting your appointments in your phone with an alarm is great when you are making quick appointments, but when your fiancé needs to accompany you to an appointment a last minute alarm on your phone won’t work for him.  You can also download a wedding app for phone to keep up with wedding tasks.

Do you like keeping your accounts balanced?  Consider creating a wedding checking account for you and your fiancé.  It will be easier to track all of the money coming and going specifically for your wedding needs.  A joint wedding account benefits you and your significant other in various ways.  You can both adjust to sharing an account and see how you and him/her like it.  You will have to communicate with your partner more about where money is spent and on what.  If you have other family members that want to contribute to your big celebration they can add to your current wedding funds in one account.  A big perk of having a wedding account is that it won’t interfere with your own accounts.  Have you ever sent a check to someone and it takes them a while to cash it and it messes with your account?  Creating a wedding account gets rid of those issues, but if you prefer not to create an account you can use cashiers checks to make sure the money is out of your account.

Keep a binder of the vendors you are considering or any ideas that you have found that you may want to show to your vendors.  Once you start making decisions the binder can turn into a binder of contracts and vendors that you have chosen to help you create your dream wedding.  It is great to have everything in one place and it saves you room.

Rain, Rain Go Away?

So the weather decided to rain on your parade, I mean, wedding. This shouldn’t mean you need to change your date or location if you’re having an outdoor wedding. Below are some ways that can help you prepare yourself, the wedding party and your guests for any potential rain!

Umbrellas, galore! Have several vases, buckets or your choice of container full of umbrellas near the entrances to the aisles for the ceremony for your guests. You can choose specific colors to go with your color scheme but it could be fun to see how different colors turn out in pictures later. Consider getting matching or complementing colors for your wedding party, keeping in mind the wedding party pictures and how the colors will come together later, too.
